location: d.u.m.b.o. arts festival, New York
Produced for the d.u.m.b.o. arts festival, this outdoor intervention, a hybrid between an artwork and curated exhibition, consists of a 55-foot long black aluminum structure perpendicular to and stretching across Washington Street beneath the Manhattan Bridge. As well as functioning as a viewing platform (for the Empire State Building), it is an elevated runway that puts occupants on view (to get past 'DOUBLE' one must walk across it). Before and during the weekend-long festival, there was an open call to make use of the structure. Respondents included an artist who spent a day drawing on the platform and displaying the works; a performer who set up a table and sold manipulated photographs; and a collective that took a formal group portrait of passersby and colleagues on the piece. The project is a collaboration with curator Sara Reisman.
