Works from the 'Classifieds' series consist of columns of classified ads from the New York Times Magazine, the New Yorker, and SKI Magazine. Parts of the ads—telephone numbers, web addresses—have been erased, leaving a stack of images that initiate a storyline the specifics of which remain elusive. 'Classifieds' was first conceived for a special issue of the journal Artl!es on the topic of sincerity. Rather than defining sincerity as earnestness, 'Classifieds' approaches it as a short circuit in the capitalist system. Those who invent and advertise the items believe there to be many buyers, but often there are in fact few. Their efforts, which fail to turn the for-sale items into commodities, are oddly sincere.
